POROSITY TEST (Unit Conversion)

According to IS-731 10.11.1 Porcelain fragments from the insulators or, by agreement, from
representative pieces of porcelain fired adjacent to them shall be
immersed in a 1 percent alcohol solution of fuchsin (1 g fuchsin in 100 g
methylated spirit) under a pressure of not less than 15 × 106 N/m2 for a
time such that the products of the test duration in hours and the test
pressure in N/m2 is not less than 180 × 106.

→ Acc. to IS, Now we can say that 180x10 ⁶ N/M² is required Pressure for 1 Hours.

→ Machine available for POROSITY TEST having unit in Ton/inch² or say T/sq. inch.

Conversion N/m² to kg/cm²

we know that, 1 N = 0.102 kg, & 1 m² = 10⁴cm² = (100x100)cm²
Calculation → ((180x10⁶) X 0.102)/10⁴
180x10⁶ N/M² = 1836 kg/cm²

Unit Conversion-2

Conversion N/m² to Ton/inch²

we know that, 1 N = 0.102 kg = 1.02x10⁻⁴ Ton & 1 m² = (39.37x39.37) inch²
Because 1 m = 39.37 inches
Calculation → ((180x10⁶) X (1.02x10⁻⁴))/39.37²
180x10⁶ N/M² = 11.8 Ton/inch²
