A Cold Winter’s Eve

I sit alone wrapped in shadows on a cold winter’s eve

Hoping that you’ll hear my voice that echoes as I breathe.

Somewhere miles down the road, I pray to see your face

Because your laughter and your smile are my only escape.

Here the sun always sets and night comes far too soon,

So I lie beneath the trees and look up at the glowing moon.

A velvet blanket surrounds me as I search amongst the stars.

Even utter darkness can’t prevent me from wondering where you are.

It’s silent all around me as I recall the memories we shared,

But still I find no point in reminiscing if you cannot be here.

For now all that’s left for me to do is remain quiet and alone,

While I listen to the wind whispering for you to come back home.
