Electoral history of Singapore GRCs

Current GRCs
Aljunied, created in 1988 and represented ever since by Foreign Minister George Yeo. He was
then 33 years old and just left the army. Election contests in 1988, 1997,2006. PAP walkovers in
1991, 2001.
Ang Mo Kio, created in 1991 and represented ever since by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Hoong. He
was deputy minister then and 39 years old. Ang Mo Kio held its first election contest in 2006.
Bishan-Toa Payoh, created in 1997 and represented ever since by Deputy Prime Minister Wong
Kan Seng. He was then 50 years old and minister for community development. No election contest
ever, PAP walkover every time.
East Coast, created in 1997. First election contest in 2006. PAP walkovers in 1997, 2001.
Holland-Bukit Timah, created in 2006. No election contest, PAP walkover.
Hong Kah, created in 1988. Election contests in 1997, 2001. PAP walkovers in 1988, 1991 and
2006.
Jalan Besar, created in 1988. Election contests in 1988, 1997, 2001, 2006. PAP walkover in 1991.
Jurong, created in 2001. Election contest in 2001. PAP walkover in 2006.
Marine Parade, created in 1988 and represented ever since by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. He
was then 47 years old and deputy prime minister. Election contests in 1988, 1991. PAP walkovers
in 1997, 2001 and 2006.
Pasir Ris-Punggol, created in 2001. Election contest in 2006. PAP walkover in 2001.
Sembawang, created in 1988 and represented ever by Law Minister K Shanmugam. He was then a
29-year-old lawyer and the team was headed by Tony Tan, who was then the education minister.
Election contests in 1988, 2006. PAP walkovers in 1991, 1997, 2001.
Tampines, created in 1988 and represented ever since by National Development Minister Mah
Bow Tan. He was then 39 years old and had been group general manager of Singapore Press
Holdings (SPH). Election contests in 1988, 1991, 2001 and 2006. PAP walkover in 1997.
Tanjong Pagar, created in 1991 and represented ever since by Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew. He
was then 67 years old and Senior Minister. No election contest ever. PAP walkover every time.
West Coast, created in 1997. Election contest in 1997. PAP walkovers in 2001, 2006.
Vanished GRCs

There are GRCs that have come and gone. Here are the ones that have disappeared.

Bedok, created in 1988. Election contests in 1988, 1991. Ceased to exist as a GRC in
1997.
Brickworks, created in 1988. Election contest in 1988. PAP walkover in 1991. Ceased
to exist as a GRC in 1997.
Cheng San, created in 1988. Election contests in 1991, 1997. PAP walkover in 1988.
Ceased to exist as a GRC in 2001.
Eunos, created in 1988. Election contests in 1988, 1991 and 1997. Ceased to exist as
a GRC in 2001.
Pasir Panjang, created in 1988. Election contest in 1988. Ceased to exist as a GRC in
1991.
Tiong Bahru, created in 1988. Election contest in 1988. Ceased to exist as a GRC in
1991.
Toa Payoh, created in 1988. PAP walkovers in 1988, 1991. Ceased to exist as a GRC
in 1997.
Kampong Glam, created in 1991. PAP walkover in 1991. Ceased to exist in as a GRC
1997.
Thomson, created in 1991. PAP walkover in 1991. Ceased to exist as a GRC in 1997.
Bukit Timah, created in 1997. PAP walkover in 1997. Ceased to exist as a GRC in
2001.
Kreta Ayer-Tanglin, created in 1997. PAP walkover in 1997. Ceased to exist as a GRC
in 2001.
Holland-Bukit Panjang, created in 2001. PAP walkover in 2001. Ceased to exist as a
GRC in 2006.
