I Hear You.

I was born to
a white
upper middle class
religious
American
household.
I’m “normal.”
But yet the more I try, I continue to find
That I’m just not quite the same as those who surround me.
You see, modern society is little more than a battleground
Two sides and deep lines drawn in the sand.
Pick a side. One or the other.
Or rather
Discover which side to which you inherently belong.
AND STAY THERE.
However the more and more I look inside myself.
The more I find.
Myself.
Me. Outside the lines of the binary.
Queer. A stranger in my own land.

And so now.
I hear you,
I hear you, and I listen.
For I am one of you.
I listen to the voices that speak but are not heard.
I listen to all the screams in the night of those who don’t fit the cultural hegemony
The wails of those outside of the patriarchy.
The cries of those who continue to cope with the oppression on the streets.
Those who continue to fight everyday against the –isms of this world.
Sexism
Racism
Fascism
Hetronormativism

To those who go unheard. You are my heroes.


and I’m trying everyday to be more like you.
The blacks
The hispanics
The females
The gay men
The lesbian women
Those who don’t fit within the binary
The transsexuals
Male to female
Female to male
Those without gender
The androgynous
The genderqueer
the
