CHRIST LUTHERAN ACADEMY

PLAINFIELD, ILLINOIS

SECTION I: PHILOSOPHY

OVERVIEW
Christ Lutheran Academy has a statement of philosophy that applies the Law and
Gospel to the lives of its students. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, students are
declared righteous for Christ’s sake and allows them to become responsible Christian
stewards of their lives and talents. From this philosophy comes the mission statement,
cornerstone, and core values and beliefs that are also contained in the school’s
publications.

STRENGTHS
(1 = self-study report, 2 = interview, 3 = observation, 4 = written documentation)

1. The philosophy and mission statements are Biblically based. (1, 3, 4)

2. The mission statement is published in the school’s handbook, curriculum guide,

and information brochure. (1, 2, 3, 4)

3. The philosophy of the school determines and mission statement, cornerstone

statement, and core values and beliefs statement. (1, 2, 3)

CONCERNS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

(1 = self-study report, 2 = interview, 3 = observation, 4 = written documentation)

1. (Concern) The mission statement is not visible upon entering the school
building. (2, 3) (Standard 1:05)
(Recommendation) Place the mission statement in the entrance hallway of the
school building. A possible location is on the valence above the college notices
between the coat room and the knight.

2. (Concern) The statement of philosophy needs to be updated and specific to

Christ Lutheran Academy using consistent wording as to whether Christ Lutheran
Academy is a “community” (recruitment brochure) or a “high school” (handbook,
curriculum guide, financial information brochure). (1, 2, 3) (Standards 1:04, 1:06,
and 1:07)
(Recommendation) Implement the plan from the self-study document section I
to review the current statement of philosophy and present for approval to the
appropriate organizations by May 2009 a statement of philosophy that is specific
to Christ Lutheran Academy and unified in wording.
