Ôhis research report is for Jean Jones. Jeans Jones is a freelance computer programmer who

develops graphics and animations for website contents. She is seeking to upgrade from her

current computer system that she has. She wants the next computer system to have the capability

to performance the functions as required by her program software applications. She wants the

next computer to have a good performance in her CPU (central processing unit). She wants to

have the capacity of the hard to sustain the files that she will be creating for the website contents.

Most of all, the next computer system should be reliable to sustain her work loads.

Jean Jones wants to minimize the cost of her computer requirements. At the same time, she

doesn¶t want to compromise on the quality and integrity of its functionalities.

Jean Jones has been using her current computer system for three years. During the period, she

has upgraded the memory, hard drive disk, and CD-RW drive. She doesn¶t want to dispose of the

current computer system. She wants to continue using. She wants to use this current computer

system as a backup and utilize by additional helpers.

Jean Jones is current using Microsoft® Windows XP® operating system. She wants to continue

to using the same operating system with her new computer. Further, she has current versions of

Adobe® Photoshop® and Flash® for her main developmental on-line contents tools. She has one

to two projects per month. Each of the projects has taken hard drive space of data files from

1.5GB to 3.0GB (gigabyte). In addition, she wants to archives all of her project.

As a consultant for Jean Jones, new computer system¶s specifications will be evaluated and

recommended to meet all requirements. Ôhe new computer system will be evaluated and

compare two commercially available systems and an OEM (original equipment manufacturer)

computer system. Ôhe three computer systems will be based on her requirements. All main

components will be taken into account. Ôhe key components that Jean Jones is looking for are

speed, storage, and reliability.

Ôhe following sections will be the evaluation for the two commercially available units and OEM

computer systems.

Ôhe first computer system will be based on Dell Computer. Its model is the Studio XPS 900.

Dell Computer will provide a 2 year basic service plan (www.dell.com). Ôhe second computer is

HP (Hewlett-Packard) computer. Its model is the Z400 Workstation (FL885UÔ). HP will provide

its service that includes a 3 years parts, 3 years labor, and 3 years onsite service (3/3/3) which is

their standard warranty (www.hp.com).

Ôhe third computer will have all the parts and labor assembled by the consulted that has been t

asked by Jean Jones. Consultant will be responsible for all of the warranty concerning parts,

labor, and service.
