CII to train students to make them employable

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: With a view to ensuring employability of students, who drop out after high school, the
Karnataka State Council for Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will provide skill-oriented training
at the high school level.

Announcing this here on Wednesday, CII Karnataka State Council Chairman Aroon Raman said that
the a website — to be called as skillconnect — would be launched shortly to bring together the
corporate sector, NGOs, schools and vocational training institutes for offering required skill
development programmes to the target student groups. He said that the NGOs could counsel the
students in schools based on the skill requirement of different companies and the vocational training
institutes could offer desired course as per industry requirement. The website is likely to be
launched in about six months, Mr. Raman said adding that skilled work force is a problem for the
corporate companies even though over 60 per cent of country's population fall in the age group
below 35 years.

Mr. Raman said the CII had organised a four-day CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Spectrum
2010 to create awareness among its members about the new ISO: 26000, an international standard
providing guidelines for social responsibility that would be launched this year by the International
Organisation for Standardisation.
