2009 UNIVERSITY OPENING EXERCISES AND ORIENTATION PROGRAM

The Nueva Vizcaya State University Bambang Campus, with its goal to orient students
particularly the freshmen and transferees, carried out an orientation program last June 19, 2009
in the university gymnasium.

The significant activity started with a wreath-laying ceremony to commemorate the 148th
birth anniversary of our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. This was spearheaded by the university
president, Dr. Marilou S. Gilo-Abon and the Campus administrator of Bambang Campus, Dr.
Leodevico M. Fronda. Several university officials joined the wreath-laying ceremony.

A Mass of the Holy Spirit followed which was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Loubert M.
Agduyeng, the assistant Parish Priest of St. Catherine Parish, Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya.

In his sermon, the celebrant emphasized the importance of starting the school year right
by invoking the blessing of the almighty. He also stressed the importance of NVSU, which
means Nourishing the Virtue of Simplicity and Uniqueness and Nurturing the Value of Self-
Control and Understanding.

The opening exercise followed after the inspiring mass. It consisted of the following:

1. Introduction of university officials


2. Presentation of chiefs of offices and administrative and support staff
3. Presentation of faculty members of the different colleges and
4. Introduction of USSC officers and advisers

The “Release of Balloons” by the University Officials, the USSC Officers and SBO
presidents and the “Singing of the NVSU Hymn” ended the morning session.

The orientation proper for freshmen and transferees transpired in the afternoon session which
focused on the following topics:

1. Scholarship
2. Library Services
3. Health Services
4. Security Services
5. Guidance and Counseling Services
6. Student Organizations
7. Student Code of Discipline
8. Recreation, Socio-Cultural Services and
9. Other Student Services and Affairs

The “University Opening Exercises and Orientation Program ended fruitfully with a “Student
Pledge” led by Mr. Raul C. Colas, USSC President.
