Darkly Dreaming Dexter

By: Jeff Lindsay

The action-packed, and mysterious story of Darkly Dreaming Dexter follows

the “behind-the-scenes” lifestyle of blood splatter analyst Dexter Morgan. Dexter is

a quiet man, with a nice job, a nice family, a nice group of friends, and even a

girlfriend. The only thing he does not have is a soul- at night he becomes a person

quite different from his carefully crafted persona, and stalks his prey becoming a

“wolf in sheep’s clothing.” Ironically, Dexter Morgan is a serial killer, but one who

unlike most serial killers, never kills the innocent. Instead, he hunts murderers,

pedophiles, and rapists and makes sure each murder is precisely planned and

executed. This book kept me on the edge of my seat since I enjoy watching the show

as well. I was recommended this book from a friend therefore would definitely

recommend it to anyone who watches the show or anyone that enjoys reading

mystery novels. One thing that was fascinating about the novel is Dexter’s narration

since he is portrayed as a killer with no morals and no remorse. The dark humor of

this tale encourages its reader to never want to put the book down. The fact that

Dexter was actually a serial killer and was also a part of the police department was

extremely surprising. This story, although different from many other books I have

read, hasn’t dramatically changed my outlook on reading because I don’t mind

reading, but at the same time, do not love to read. However, throughout the

duration of reading this book, I actually enjoyed reading and would definitely read

the sequel to this novel if Jeff Lindsay writes one.
