Project Title: Study of existing supply chain established by UJAS and the feasibility of
distributing agricultural inputs through the Village Level Service Centre promoted by UJAS in
the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh

Host Organisation: Udyogini

Authors: Arti Mishra, Reza Mohammad Khan, Rukshana Praveen, Sumeet Kumar Pandey

Project Location: Mandla, Madhya Pradesh

Project Brief:

Udyogini focuses on women entrepreneurship in rural areas. To promote this they have
established a rural retail chains known as Village Level Service Centers (VLSC) which are
operational in 20 villages of Mandla district which deals in both procuring and selling of
commodities. The present sales are low due to their product centric approach instead of customer
centric approach. They also lack demand estimation. The loyalty of VLSCs towards Udyogini is
also wavering. To enhance loyalty as well as the sales of the VLSCs, Udyogini suggested to
incorporate the distribution of agricultural inputs and related services through VLSCs and to do a
feasibility study on the same. After the study it is concluded that the project is not feasible due
to the low demand, geographical condition (soil depth is just 1m), lack of irrigation facilities.
After the study it is also concluded that it is not financially feasible.
