September Web Series Feature Giant Book Sale in North Carolina and Disaster
Preparedness in US Dioceses

The September installments of Episcopal Relief & Development’s two popular web series,
Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development and Power of Partnerships, are now available online.
Each month, these series highlight the work of those collaborating with the agency to help
people affected by poverty and disease worldwide.

This month’s Friends of Episcopal Relief & Development tells the story of St. Francis Episcopal
Church in Greensboro, North Carolina, and their decades-long tradition of holding an annual
book sale to benefit local and international charities. Organizers work year-round to sort
through donations, with their efforts culminating in one of the largest book sales in the South.
Episcopal Relief & Development has been a beneficiary of the event since 2002.

September being Disaster Preparedness Month, this installment of Power of Partnerships

features diocesan partners in the US who are proactively creating disaster preparedness plans,
including the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia. Learn how leaders there are working
to ensure the safety of communities in their diocese, and visit the resource library for more
information on emergency planning and response.

Episcopal Relief & Development is the international relief and development agency of the
Episcopal Church of the United States and an independent 501(c)(3) organization. The agency
takes its mandate from Jesus’ words found in Matthew 25. Its programs work towards
achieving the Millennium Development Goals. Together with the worldwide Church and
ecumenical partners, Episcopal Relief & Development strengthens communities today to meet
tomorrow’s challenges. We rebuild after disasters and empower people by offering lasting
solutions that fight poverty, hunger and disease, including HIV/AIDS and malaria.
