 School should teach students how to think, not just what to think so that
whatever you don’t know, whatever business challenge tomorrow brings,
you’ll have the solid foundation and analytic skills to tackle it.
 I know accounting very well. What I really need is strategy, operation and
marketing. A lot of people think that in finance you just need to know how
to build models, but the real core of how you become better analyst is what
you put into models. That’s a function of how well you understand the
industry, the competitive dynamics, the company’s marketing program, and
how a product will affect their revenues.
 Challenge yourself. It’s not to take a cookie-cutter curriculum and get a great
GPA. It’s to take the hard classes so that when you do internship and job,
you are ahead of the curve.
 The strategy courses have helped me take a step back, think about the big
picture, and work more on the planning piece. They’ve helped me structure
my thoughts leading into a decision and also support my reasons behind it.
“Here is the decision I think we need to be making, and here is why”.
 No matter how the world changes, I am prepared to go forward.
 Don’t just figure something out at the surface; get to the heart of the
problem.
 There is not a moment where I am not learning something.
 My classmates are unique and certainly will be in my network for my life.
 Leadership is really about taking initiative, standing out and caring for
people around you.
 The public speaking module helped me see how I present myself, eg make a
concise and impactful presentation.
