Good Morning!

•  Do these on your Do Now sheets. Hurry!

We use time well in this class.

•  Do Now: solve for x.

1) 14x = 42
2) x/8 = 128
SWBAT solve multi-step
equations.

Big Goal: Isolate the Variable
•  Use opposite operations. Do PEMDAS
backwards.

•  There is more than one “right way”

Example: Solve 7m – 17 = 60
7m – 17 = 60
7m – 17 + 17 = 60 + 17
7m = 77
Backwards (7m)/7 = 77/7
PEMDAS- first
we do addition/ m = 11
subtraction,
THEN
multiplication/
division.
Check:
7(11) – 17 = 60
77 – 17 = 60
60 = 60
Example: Solve (p-15)/9 = -6
(p-15)/9 = -6
9(p-15)/9 = 9(-6)
p – 15 = -54
p – 15 + 15 = -54 + 15
p = -39
You Try: Write on Whiteboards
8 = 3r + 7
8 – 7 = 3r + 7 – 7
1 = 3r
1/3 = 3r/3
1/3 = r
You Try: Write on Whiteboards
•  Show every step.
•  Write big.
(k – 12)/5 = 4
5•(k – 12)/5 = 5•(4)
k-12 = 20
k – 12 + 12 = 20 + 12
k = 32
Homework: Due Monday
•  Skills Practice Workbook (NOT TEXTBOOK):

p13, #5-22 (all).

•  Don’t worry, we’ll work on this more on

Monday.
Time to Pack Up
•  Whiteboards stacked in the middle of your
desk.

•  Markers capped on top of the whiteboards,

with erasers on each side to prevent
rolling.
Have a wonderful day.
