A sounds like "ah" in father
E sounds like "eh" in prey
O sounds like "oh" in home
I sounds like "i" in machine
U sounds like "u" in truth

People often know the word for goodbye - sayonara, and sometimes hello - konnich
iwa. Read out loud the words in the vocabulary list (below) to help you.

Konnichiwa - hello; good afternoon
Konbonwa - good evening
Oyasumi nasai - good night
Sayonara - goodbye (if it must be so) <-- lol XD
Bai bai - goodbye (from english bye bye. can sound childish. either this or Sayo
nara works for saying goodbye)
Ja mata ne! - See you! (casual)
Mata Ashita - see you tomorrow
Hajimemashite - how do you do?
Dozo yoroshiku - pleased to meet you
Kochira wa ... - this person is...
San - Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms (addressing someone else)
Domo arigato - thank you (very much)
Arigato - thanks
Sumimasen - excuse me; sorry
Hai - yes
Lie - no
Desu - am, is, are
