Airport Funding

• No local taxes are required to pay for San Diego International Airport, including
parking structures, terminals, taxiways, runways and other facilities directly
associated with the airport itself.

• Funding sources for San Diego International Airport come from a variety of
outside sources and include:

1) Federal funding – Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants from the

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
2) Passenger Facility Charges – The existing airport Passenger Facility
Charge, an FAA-approved $4.50 user fee on each airline ticket at San
Diego International Airport.
3) Airport revenues – Revenue generated at the airport from airline landing
fees, tenant rentals, concessions, parking and other sources.
4) Airport revenue bonds – Bonds would be issued by the Airport Authority
and later repaid with dedicated airport revenues.
