PLC Definations

1. A programmable logic controller, PLC or programmable

controller is a small computer used for automation of real-
world processes, such as control of machinery on factory
assembly lines.

2. The PLC is a microprocessor based device with either modular

or integral input/output circuitry that monitors the status of
field connected "sensor" inputs and controls the attached
output "actuators" (motor starters, solenoids, pilot
lights/displays, speed drives, valves, etc.) according to a user-
created, logic program stored in the microprocessor's battery-
backed RAM memory.

3. A control device, normally used in industrial control

applications, that employs the hardware architecture of a
computer and a relay ladder diagram language. Also known as
programmable logic controller

4. A programmable logic controller, or PLCS, is a software-based

equivalent of a relay panel. A programmable logic controller
( PLCS ) is a general-purpose device. One programmable logic
controller ( PLCS ) can be programmed to control a variety of
machines, and programs can be changed easily for new jobs or
changes in production routines.

5. A programmable logic controller (PLC) or programmable

controller is a digital computer used
for automation of electromechanical processes. PLCs are used
in many industries and machines

6. A device using programmed, custom instructions to provide

automated monitoring and control function by evaluating a set
of inputs.

7. A device used to automate monitoring and control of industrial

plant. Can be used stand alone or in conjunction with a
SCADA or other system.
