Vocabulary teaching- second week

This week, we talked about the pre- while – and post techniques of the vocab teaching.i like
most the tecnique of teaching by demonstrating.However, we can’t use this with all words
(only action verbs). Teaching by pictograms is also fruitful form e. Ss can learn beter when
they see the representation of the words with their drawings.i like also the familiar or famous
words technique.i think it best works with young learners . We can teach the new words with
what they have already know popularly.For example: a popular song names , a famous
cartoon character’s name can be tought.
İ dislike the technique of translating.As a teacher,if translate all new words in L1, we only
maket hem stay in the short term memory of the ss.They fade away after the lesson has
finished.However, if we couldn’t find any way out to teach a word, after we have tried
different methods , lastly we can use this technique.But not as much.
İ can use many of these techniques,double check and post -activities.They all help our ss’
learning effectively.Especially double check questions reinforce the meanings very much.
