4, 3 4 ee December 14,2018 Mr. Brad Honsberger, President Dixie School District 380 Nova Albion Way San Rafael, California 94903, Dear Brad: ‘As you may know, [have previously suggested our school district change its name to one more reflective of our broad community; specifically, I prefer Miller Elementary School District over the school district's current name. My reasoning is quite simple; it preserves the district’ history, an itis les offensive to some than isthe current name Dixie. And, frankly, a school district in San Rafael, and more broadly, Marin, with this name always seemed alittle odd and out of place to me. Therefore, combining these reasons, | believe this name change is preferable to the existing as It provides another improvement to our already “Distinguished Schools”. Like many others in our district, we moved to this area primarily because of the ‘outstanding reputation ofthe school district -and our experience has proven this to be a ‘wise decision. Our three children attended and received outstanding educations at several ‘of the Dixie schools, and they went on to succeed at excellent universities. For this we will always be grateful and indebted to the Dixie School District, For this personal reason, the district is probably a significant to me as most others in our area. In addition, l was fortunate to be elected as a trustee of the Dixie School District for ‘eight years and involved in several youth sports including the Dixie Youth Soccer ‘Association and Dixie-Terva Linda Little League. For me, like many others in our area, Dixie hasa special and unique meaning of quality education and community activities. But, I've concluded it’s the community members and the distric’s quality educators that make this area special, rather than the name affixed {a0 Phi, Mayors Candin Ve Mayet ay, Courier Ka Cl, Courier Arson Cini MeDaoigh Cound‘And so, back to my basic premise that if we can take steps to further improve the district, feel we should.
