Varna was based on Occupation and JATI was based on caste. Varna were only 4, Jati were many, Varna
Could change, but jati were rigid and could not be changed.

Gotra is a descent from a common ancestor, patrilineal
Family of rishi’s is called pravara.

Joint Family – When more then 3 generations live together, share same kitchen is called joint
family
