    After the undeniable success of the previous editions in Madrid (2008 and 2009) and Barcelona (2010), the IV Conference of Jovens em Investigação Arqueológica - JIA 2011 will be held at Campus de Gambelas, Universidade do Algarve, Faro (Portugal) from 11th to 14th May 2011. This will be the first time that the Conference will take place in Portugal, as a result of an initiative of the Núcleo de Arqueologia e Paleoecologia (NAP) of the Faculdade de Ciências Humanas e Sociais of UAlg. The JIA is a scientific event held by and for young researchers (non Ph.D.s’) in Archaeology. Its structural lines are essentially the presentation and discussion on broad topics of current research, intending thereby to promote the development of scientific ideals in the community of young archaeologists; disseminate and discuss research on a broad range of issues; and facilitate the contact and cooperation between researchers, in order to create large and interdisciplinary research groups. The 2011 edition will maintain the model of previous years, with four days of congress, with a total of twelve thematic sessions of oral presentations (two parallel sessions each morning and afternoon) and a poster session. The oral sessions will cover, as in previous years, only specific topics proposed by each coordinator, while the poster session will include the contribution of free themes and will have a specific time within the program with the aim of enabling a greater interaction among the authors of each poster and the other participants. In the fourth and final day of the events, as has been tradition, is scheduled a field trip with visits to some of the most iconic archaeological sites in the Algarve region. As for news, the JIA 2011 will have two new spaces in the structure of the event: an area dedicated to the sale of publications of Archaeology and related disciplines; and a space for advertising jobs, grants and internship opportunities. Both are intended, in one of the few events entirely dedicated to young researchers, to continue the effort to make the JIA Conference an international meeting place where we can exchange knowledge and meet colleagues in a more informal setting. The Organizing and Scientific Committees are honored to invite the community of young archaeologists to participate in the IV Conference of Jovens em Investigação Arqueológica.

    or Portuguese).We note that new approaches in theoretical or methodological archeological
    issues,, or sessions with a vocation for the discussion and renovation of o archaeological
    interpretations will have preference.
