Synergism [syn·er·gism] n.

 
Interaction of discrete
agencies or conditions
where the total effect is
greater than the sum of the
individual parts.  "All the
stockholders saw
considerable synergism in
the merger."  [also Synergy].
Example: The BHR, with an
integral porous surface,
eliminates that element of
possible adverse synergism
between titanium and
cobalt-chrome.
