Usually the term international marketing is associated with a particular product or service related

to any company. But in Olympic case we can also use it in terms of marketing of a city, a nation
or a country. The Beijing Olympics 2008 is an example of this type of international marketing.
The only objective of China in conducting these games was to promote the city and country all
over the world and make its growing influence stronger to attract the foreign investor and
indirectly make the country economically strong.

I personally believe that it is a marvelous strategy to grow the country’s business. As seen in the
past the cities like Barcelona, Sydney, Los Angeles and Atlanta etc used the same marketing
strategy to promote their cities in the world and give them an international exposure.

Tourism is a highest booming industry in the world. Every country can promote tourism to
attract foreigner to visit their places and generate revenue. There are various ways to
internationally market and advertise the country’s beautiful place like print media including
magazines, newspapers etc, electronic media including television advertisement, radio FM ads,
Internet sponsorships and banners, the telephone marketing etc. But none of these can capture
billion populations at a time as it does in Beijing Olympics. Not only Chinese or Asian people
get attracted by Olympics, people from Europe, America, Australia and Middle East also get
attracted. So china get what it want. The overall purpose of the international marketing is to
gather more people and make them your customer.

Improved infrastructure of the country is the sign of prosperity. More comfortable roads, sign
boards and transport system are the mean of communicating your country with the new
customers which are foreigners. China done it perfectly and attract more and more customers to
its Beijing. Result? Customers come buy goods and services of Chinese people and give the
revenue greater than expected.

As a conclusion, Beijing 2008 Olympics was a mean of communication between China and outer
world. The country selected the best strategy to market itself internationally and succeed. As a
result China is now become a leading actor on the global, economic and political stages. Thanks
to Olympic Games.
