Basis of Locke is Freedom not necessarily “liaise faire”

Biggest obstacle to freedom is other people

Only way to have a free natural society is to prevent irrationality

Freedom is the foundation and the precondition for freedom is the security from irrational ppl

You have to go to war for freedom

Major argument for science comes from the biblical quote “be fruitful and multiply” so in essence he
tries to merge Christianity, politics, and logic to have a more peaceful and prosperous world.

First treatise prepares for political discussion in the second treatise so he gets into the details of politics.

Three basic principles of the book

1. Def of political power only for property and protecting from foreigners
2. Rights replace duties and obligations

Political power must be for the common good, anything else is tyranny

If you don’t take care of the security then there is no political stability

Economy of violence- force must be properly used to control people so they are free

Freedom=self reliance, not being dependent on the will of others

Individualism which locke promotes does not exist in history``````
