NEW YORK STATE SENATE

Senator Craig Johnson (D-District 7)

Senator Craig Johnson personifies “good government.” He is a principled, effective and independent elected official who has taken
on powerful and entrenched special interests to fight for what is right for his constituents. With a heightened awareness of the
financial burdens of families who pay high property taxes toward our school districts in addition to yeshiva/day school tuition,
Johnson supports an important Education Tax Credit Bill.

The senator has also been the driving force behind enacting a Property Tax Cap to finally force county, state and local government
to get serious about spending and budgeting within reasonable means. Johnson led the fight to get this important legislation passed
in the Senate and has been coordinating efforts to get it through the Assembly.
Johnson’s commitment to Israel and his Zionist roots were deeply seeded and reinforced by his mother, the late Barbara Johnson, a
former Nassau County legislator, and his wife, Elizabeth Kase. The Barbara Johnson Foundation, which Johnson and Kase
spearhead, continues his mother’s legacy of public service by funding breast cancer awareness programs and research. Johnson
also sponsored the Iranian Divestment Act, which bars the state pension fund from investing in companies that conduct business
with the current Iranian regime, a policy adopted by Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. As the head of the State’s Senate Investigations
and Government Operations Committee, Johnson became the first chairman in New York State history to pass an independent
redistricting bill, which takes the power to redistrict out of the hands of legislators and empowers an independent panel that will
create fair lines. We heartily endorse his candidacy.
