Dear Colleagues

The School of Indigenous Education (SIE) is discontinuing the use of a survey recently developed as an
assessment readiness tool for aspiring students. We apologize for the inappropriate language contained
in the survey and will continue to work to develop appropriate assessment tools.

This is a new pilot project and the survey has been a work in progress. The survey received by the media
is an earlier version that was revised when concerns were raised. To date, the survey has been used on a
very limited basis and all information collected has been destroyed. The College recognizes that more
work is needed in order to develop an assessment tool that is effective and culturally sensitive.

Red River College is committed to breaking down barriers and creating new student-centered programs
and supports for Indigenous learners – key aspects of our own Indigenous Strategic Framework and the
Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.

We are proud of the efforts we have made over the past 18 months to advance Indigenous
achievement. We have added a number of new academic programs, student services, and a historic level
of bursary support – and we have increased the number of staff and faculty to support these new
initiatives.

I look forward to continuing to work with all of you as we grow and change in support of our students
and their success.
