PNEUMONIA

DEFINATION
‡ Acute inflammation of lung parenchyma ‡ Inflammatory infiltrate in alveoli ( = consolidation)

CLASSIFICATION
‡ Aetiology (classical, atypical) ‡ Morphological class. - Bronchopneumonia vs. lobar pneumonia. ‡ Community acquired vs hospital acquired (nosocomial) infection. ‡ The patient's immune status.

‡ Bronchopneumonia -a febrile illness with cough, respiratory distress with evidence of localized or generalized patch infiltrates. ‡ Lobar pneumonia -same with bronchopneumonia exc physical findings and radiographs indicate lobar consolidation

Aetiology
‡ Newborn-group B streptococcus, gram negative enterococci ‡ Infant & young children-RSV (common), bacteria(strep. Pneumonia, haem. Influenzae, bordetella pertussis ,chlamydia trachomatis,staph. Aureus) ‡ Children>5yo-mycoplasma pneumonia, strep. Pneumonia,chlamydia trachomatis(main causes)
