3. Objectives: focused on the major values and events related to the Romanian-Indian
relations:
- Organizing cultural programmes, lectures, conferences, symposia, round tables, meetings,
courses, exhibitions, concerts, performances and other get-togethers for promoting the Indian
culture and civilization in Romania and the Romanian culture and civilization in India.
- Developing a similar section in India.
- Promoting the true knowledge of the Romanian indologists/artists and the Indian specialists
and lovers of Romanian culture and civilization.
- Providing the suitable background for the debut of the young writers and artists from Romania
and India, as well.
- Organizing camps of creation both in Romania and India in terms of mutual relations.
- Bringing about a cultural exchange between specialists belonging to both countries for the
better knowledge and promotion of the both cultures.
- Granting scholarships to the talented young people and supporting them to print and distribute
their MA disertations and doctorate theses.
- Establishing contacts with Indian cultural institutions through the Embassy of India in
Bucharest.
- Developing the activities of printing and distribution of cultural publications of general interest
in collaboration with other cultural bodies and publishing houses.
- Developing an East-European centre of indological studies for promoting both Indian and
Romanian values abroad.
- Developing the cooperation and friendship with the all specialists, men of letters, artists all
over the world concerned by the great Indian culture and civilization in the spirit of peace, non-
profit, respect of all nations and cultures in the world.
4. Total membership (full-members and sympathizers): 150 (Indian: 50; local citizens: 100).
R.I.C.A. gathers specialists and lovers of India, as well as Indian visiting residing in Romania.
5. The source of income of the Society: sponsorship, donations, courses’fees.
6. Society premises:

its activities within the Center for Recreative Activities and Occupational Innovation, Calderun
Street, No. 39, Bucharest, Sector 2.

- Observing properly the 150th anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore will make better heard
the sound of India through hermeneutics, recitals, fresh poetry on European ground; a symbolic
Shantiniketan may be imagined and performed under the oak tree in Herastrau Park planted at his
centenary; a special Tagore prize could be awarded through RICA;
- Continuing former programmes like Circle of Upanishads, Indian hours, book releases,
teaching Indian arts, sciences and religions, participating to indological events;
- Helping publication with Bibliotheca Publishing House: Gramatica sanscrita by
MihaiEminescu Mihai Eminescu si scripturile sanscrite by Zricha Vaswani, Mantra Eminescu by
George Anca,

- Colaboration of RICA with cultural, educational and media bodies for promotion together
of:
Indian studies (Culture, Philosophy, Science, Religions, Arts, Languages etc.) Master and PhD
degrees, “Indological School”/ Scoala de indianistica, etc.
Romanian-Indian Encounters (colloquial meetings, launchings, “Indian hours”,festivals,
scholarships, travels etc.)
Publications, radio and television broadcasts (Original and translated books, studies and articles,
RICA Newsletter, Trivium, etc.)
Any initiative from various corners aiming at mutual knowledge and understanding.
9. The likely impact of these activities on projection of Indian culture and development of
bilateral relations:
RICA's objectives are oriented precisely towards real academic and cultural impact, on
projection on the Indian values in Romania and the Romanian values in India.
Romania is settled at the crossroad of cultures between East and West and societies like ours
may spread news in the neighbouring countries too including joint ventures.
Traditional Romanian armchaired Indology is challenged thus more and more by field research
never loosing out of sight the truth stated by Amita Bhose that “Eminescu was the only European
writer who made India immortal in his own country.”
The Indian Centre for Cultural Relations in India may help the leading members of R.I.C.A. to
visit India periodically (documentation, study and research trips in India may be motivated by
involvement in cultural projects).
