The second quarter LG&E and KU Consumer Advisory Panel
meeting was held June 9 at the E.W. Brown Generating Station in Harrodsburg, Ky. John P. Malloy, Vice President of Energy Delivery - Retail, and Chris Hermann, Senior Vice President, Energy Delivery, gave updates on both the PPL transaction and the rate case. CAP member, Rodney Hitch of Morehead, asked for details about how commissioners are selected. Hermann replied that commissioners are appointed by the governor and they report through the Department of Energy Development and Independence.
Following the updates, the group participated in a discussion about
ash ponds. David Millay, Civil Engineer III – Generation Engineering, highlighted the integrity and safety of the dams at LG&E and KU facilities, assuring CAP members that all of our facilities are “in full compliance with all environmental regulations and are regularly inspected.” Mike Winkler, Manager of Environmental Programs, followed with a presentation about the permitting of dams and the associated regulatory issues.
The day ended with a tour of the E.W. Brown facility.
