V Billie Holiday- born Eleanora Fagan, and was also
known as Dzlady sings the bluesdz. Her name Billy
Holiday was originated by her favorite childhood
actress Billy Dove. She is known for her many musical
accomplishments and inserting everyday lives of
black folks through her music. Her performance
Dzstrange fruitdz sent shockwaves throughout the
nation. The song was about the lynching of African
Americans.

V Duke Ellington- was known as the most important


jazz bandleaders during this time. He led what is
known as DzCount Basie Orchestradz for a little under 50
years. He worked with many musical individuals
during the Harlem Renaissance Era, Billie Holiday was
apart of his band.

V Nora Douglas Holt Ray- was a singer, composer and


music critic, who was born in Kansas and was the first
African American to receive a masters degree in in the
United States. She composed over 200 works of music
and was associated with the leading figures of the
Harlem Renaissance and the co-founder of the
National Association of Negro Musicians.

joining along as well.
