REVOLUTIONARY
COMMUNIST

For the second time in 6 months members of the Revolutionary Communist
Tendency (RCT) have been assaulted by the Revolutionary Communist Group
(ROG), The most recent incident took place in Kilburn on 13 October
1979.
‘The RCT arrived at 10,00am to hold a meeting on Ireland in Kilburn
Square. An hour later a group of RCG members arrived. RCG member David
Yaffe approached the RCT telling them they had no right to hold street
meetings in Kilburn and giving them five minutes to leave or face
physical attack. In reply he was told that the RCT would not leave,
but that it had no objection tothe REG holding its own street mecting
in the square.
Five minutes later the RCG group ~ now numbering 12 - turned on three
male RCT mombérs. In the next few minutes these three were verbally
abused, punched and kicked. One was knocked to the ground end given
fa prolonged kicking; the other two were struck about the head with
banner poles. This was witnessed by comrades from the National Abortion
Campaign and the Socialist Workers Party. Faced with this completely
unprovoked attack and fearful of police intervention, the RCT withdrew.
The RCG sees physical confrontations as a legitimate means of resolving
political disputes in the workers' movement. This approach simply
sabotages all attempts to build an effective opposition to British
imperialism's armed occupation of the North of Ireland. The Irish
question is too important to be degraded to narrow sectarian ends. The
Revolutionary Communist Tendency urges organisations in the workers’
movement to register their disgust at the activities of the RCG. At
the same time the RCT wishes to make it clear that it will not stand
by and see its members and supporters physically attacked by people
who are unable to defend themselves politically.
