Before I took this lesson about the use of humor in the classroom, I used to have some

conflicts and couldn’t be sure if it’s essential that I use humor as a teacher.

What I have learnt from this lesson is that humor is one of the most effective ways of
teaching language. First of all, it gives a way for students to feel relaxed and integrated in the
classroom. The more they feel relaxed and participated in their own learning, the more positive the
classroom atmosphere will be and the more motivated the students will become. As humor is a part
of the human nature, it is also required in the classroom. But the more important thing is that humor
should be used with a balance. If the classroom is not open to any jokes, a teacher doesn’t
necessarily have to make jokes. Moreover, humor should be subject-related. If the teacher expands it
to a very distant degree, students’ attention may be distracted. An effective teacher should know
how and where to use it. Another important feature of humor is that it encourages students to take
risks both socializing in classroom and participating in lesson. Cartoons are also a good way of
bringing humor to the classroom in that they facilitates learning much more effectively.
