Leo the Great

To the Standing Committees of the Episcopal Church.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

We, the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Northern Indiana, are writing today to ask
your prayerful and reasoned consideration in the matter of consent for The Rev. Daniel
H. Martins as Bishop Diocesan of Springfield.

Fr. Martins has been a priest of this diocese for three years and a member of the Standing
Committee for this past year. In our work together, he has demonstrated his preeminent
faith in Jesus Christ, tremendous depth and clarity of thought, and an abiding
commitment to the Episcopal Church. Though our Standing Committee reflects the
breadth and complexity of thought in the Episcopal Church, Fr. Martins has been an
engaged and respectful participant in every conversation. To be sure, he is clear and
articulate in his convictions, but comports himself in such ways that foster positive,
collegial relationships among us and build up the Body of Christ in the Diocese of
Northern Indiana.

We believe that Fr. Martins is well-qualified and duly chosen to be bishop of the Diocese
of Springfield. We believe further that, given consent to exercise that office, he will serve
faithfully and well as a bishop in the Episcopal Church.

Faithfully in Christ,

The Standing Committee of the Diocese of Northern Indiana
