A way out

“What time is the next train?”

The man beside me asked.

His eyes, the piercing blues pleading

Not for the time of the next train

But for a way out of this world.

Not a simple request, but a plea for help.

A man without purpose, without hope

Looking to find his way.

His past, his own, but his question

Speaking volumes, saying

Where he has been, and will go

Not where they cast him out,

But beyond the horizon, where

A promise, a goal, a hope

To find all that he never had

But can perhaps discover again.

Blizzard

A look to my left, a wall of white

A quick glance around, yet still all white

To pierce this fog, this cloud of snow

I trudge along.

My destination, unclear,

But my goal, certain.

I must get out of here,

Find some sort of shelter.

My fingers turn blue as my nose falls off

Feelings in my toes, long gone away

My mind blanking out, succumbing

To this white demon, this king of the cold

As I hit the snow, some powder stirs up,

And rests gently upon me as it settles,

Helping to coat me in its snowy embrace

As I lay lost in the blizzard.

Marriage

Life is a great thing, so full of wonder,

Yet one bad moment can tear it asunder,

Rip it to shreds; destroy all your work,

One event in your life can make you a jerk.

A mistake of the past, cannot be undone,

The way you walked up to her, and pointed the gun,

The goal was simple, the intention was pure,

But moving to fire, becoming unsure.

The problems you’d cause, her tearing eyes,

Only worrying for the others, whose lives

You would destroy, with the flick of a finger,

No trace of their past, would linger.

The trembling body, shaking in fear,

Cools your fiery anger; vision now clear,

Those accusations of pure hatred you made

Seeing those green eyes once more began to fade

There once was perfect love, extinguished in

A heartbeat of anger, destroying what has been

Your marriage, a vow you now cannot bear,

“Till death do us part”: a true nightmare.

If life gives you lemons, make lemonade,

But somehow I think that I shouldn’t.
