Paths

We follow the paths we see

Our options created -
And constrained -
By our experiences

We learn to move down paths

With boldness,
Or caution ---
Fear,
Or ambition
Learning from “experience”

And yet our learning from the past

Often does a disservice.
It offers a lie,
A perception that the past
Will repeat

Thus clouded
We miss the truth.
All that we experience
Is new in the moment.

Even the familiar paths

we tread every day
Shift subtly

Why then do we persist

In applying the old
To understanding the new?

Is it comfort
Or fear
That drives us most often?
What of hope,
And of dreams?

No matter
We can only seek to find
The wisdom
And strength
To truly live in the moment
