United Nations Security Council to Visit Timor-


Leste, 27-30 November 2010

15 November 2010 | Jakarta – The United Nations Security Council will visit Timor-Leste on
Saturday, November 27, through Tuesday, November 30. Visiting members will include ambassadors
of 14 of the 15 nations currently represented on the Security Council.

While in Timor-Leste, Security Council members will participate in Timor-Leste’s Proclamation of


Independence Day celebration at the Presidential Palace in Dili (confirm), and will make a district
visit, accompanied by high level UN staff and UNMIT police.

Security Council members will meet with: President of Timor-Leste, Dr. José Ramos-Horta, Minister
for Foreign Affairs Mr. Zacarias Albano da Costa, and on Monday, 29 November will hold a three hour
meeting with executive members of the Government of Timor-Leste and Prime Minister Xanana
Gusmão at the Council of Ministers. Afterwards they will visit the National Parliament meet with the
president of the national parliament.

Visits with the National Police of Timor-Leste (PNTL), Timorese Defense Force (F-FDTL),
International Stabilization Force (ISF) and the Bishop of Dili will be held in their respective offices.

Security Council members will also hold group meetings with the diplomatic community, NGOs,
women’s groups, all registered political parties, and representatives of the court system in Timor-
Leste.

A press conference will be held with Security Council members on 2pm on Tuesday, November 30.
