Christmas in the Philippines

Unlike the States, the Yuletide season in the Philippines begins quite early. Decorations begin going up
in late October and early November. Stores begin putting their Christmas items up for sale in early
November.

In this highly devout Catholic country, Christmas and New Year’s are two of the most highly celebrated
times of the year. People begin shopping for family presents early, but also like the US some will wait
until the last minute to do their shopping. City government buildings and private homes become
elaborately decorated, much like homes in the US. However unlike the States, people in this country
begin going house to house during the latter part of November until Christmas Day singing carols, both
traditional and native.

During the final days leading up to Christmas day, the Catholic churches in this country begin holding
masses both day and night. On Christmas day, the first mass begins well before dawn. This is truly a
time of celebration unlike many other places in the world. Come and enjoy the Yuletide season in the
Philippines.
