Hacksaws

A Hacksaw is a tool that can cut many different kinds of metals and materials
providing the proper type of blade is used. The two main parts of the hacksaw are
the Frame and the Blade.
There are many types of hacksaw frames, but the type most commonly used is
the Pistol Grip.

Most hacksaw frames are adjustable to fit 8, 10, or 12 inch blades. The PITCH
(teeth per inch) is the most important factor in the selection of the proper blade
for the job. Blades are available with the teeth ranging from 14 to 32 pitch
(teeth per inch).
Tips for Using a Hacksaw

• Make sure you select a blade with proper pitch for

material being cut.
• Do not saw too fast (40-60 strokes per minute).
• The Blade must be kept straight at all times.
• Apply just enough pressure on forward strokes and
release pressure on return stroke.
• When finished, release tension on saw frame before
returning it to the tool room.
