WHAT IS TRAINING ? LIST SOME OF ITS IMPORTANCE AND OBJECTIVES.

The historical antecedents of training have contributed towards the current perception of
training. In many crafts and guilds the purpose of training was to enable indentured apprentices to

(A) E-learning :

e-Learning is learning that takes place in an electronically simulated environment. e-Learning,

web-based training, internet-based training and computer-based training are the next-generation
instruction methods being developed today. With e-Learning, users can immerse themselves in a
three-dimensional environment to further enhance their learning experience. Moreover, e-Learning
can be done anywhere and anytime as long as the user has the proper hardware. Today, e-Learning
is fast becoming a reality through companies like Trainersoft and others.

 Self-Paced Learning

 Interactive Environment

 Lower Costs and Larger Capacity

 Convenient Learning

(B) Case Study :

A case study presents an account of what happened to a business or industry over a number of
years. It chronicles the events that managers had to deal with, such as changes in the competitive
environment, and charts the managers response, which usually involved changing the business- or
corporate-level strategy.
Cases prove valuable in a course for several reasons.
First, cases provide you, the student, with experience of organizational problems that you probably
have not had the opportunity to experience firsthand. In a relatively short period of time, you will
have the chance to appreciate and analyze the problems faced by many different companies and to
understand how managers tried to deal with them.
Second, cases illustrate what you have learned.
Third, case studies provide you with the opportunity to participate in class and to gain experience
in presenting your ideas to others.
(C) Motor Skills :

A motor skill is a learned sequence of movements that combine to produce a smooth, efficient
action in order to master a particular task.

(D) Sensitivity Training :

Sensitivity training is often offered by organizations and agencies as a way for members of a given
community to learn how to better understand and appreciate the differences in other people.
It asks training participants to put themselves into another person's place in hopes that they will be
able to better relate to others who are different than they are.
Sensitivity training often specifically addresses concerns such as gender sensitivity, multicultural
sensitivity, and sensitivity toward those who are disabled in some way.

The goal in this type of training is more oriented toward growth on an individual level. Sensitivity
training can also be used to study and enhance group relations, i.e., how groups are formed and how
members interact within those groups.

(E) Programmed Instruction :

A progressively monitored, step-by-step teaching method, employing small units of information or

learning material and frequent testing, whereby the student must complete or pass one stage before
moving on to the next. Also called programmed learning.

(F) Role Playing :

A training technique where trainees play different roles (salesperson, customer, manager, junior,
etc.) in order to get a better understanding of people and to improve their powers of
communication

Example Role-playing was used as part of the management training programme to stimulate board
meetings.

"…role playing designed to simulate work situations: for example, candidates may be asked to stand
in for a fictional manager who has been taken sick"
