MARAMURES

Maramures is a remote region in the extreme north

of the country. This is the place where the ancient
traditions, the folk costumes and the old art are
preserved like nowhere else in Romania.
 The Maramures region is the richest
place in traditions from Romania.
People wear their folk costumes
every day and respect the customs.
. Men are amazingly skillful
wood carvers, and you
shouldn't be surprised that all
the old houses and churches
are entirely made of wood.
One representative form of
architecture is the carved gate
But the most famous tourist attraction of Maramures is
the merry cemetery from Sapanta, known for the way
people write on their tombstones.Here is an example
from the cemetery of Sapanta:
"Here lies my mother-in-law.
Had she lived another year,
I would have lied here."
In conclusion, the whole Maramureş
region is a living “outdoor museum”
famous for its unchanged way of life and
for its well-preserved wooden villages and
churches. ,
