The week of March 8, 2010 the New York State

Correction Officers P.B.A. (NYSCOPBA) erected

a replica of double-bunked cell in the Capitol:
To educate elected officials and the public on double-
bunked cells in New York Prisons
To alert the elected officials and the public to the dangers
of overcrowding and double-bunking inmates

To stop the inhumane practice of

double-bunked inmates.

Double-bunking inmates is :
• A hygienic issue for the two inmates forced into
tight living quarters
• A privacy issue for both inmates in a small area
• A security issue for the inmates and staff

STOP Double-Bunking in New York Prisons!

Currently, there are 14,982 inmates in New York state prisons
that are forced to live in double-bunked conditions.
Why?
Warehousing inmates is dangerous for both staff and inmates.
