Conflicting Decisions Making

Midwestern Divisions and their Functions.

• Midwestern health system is made up of two

divisions - Midwest Health Plan and Health
Systems Corporation.
• Health systems division is responsible for
hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, while
Midwest health plan is in charge of the health
insurance product and relationship with
physician groups.
Lack of Integration.
• Despite the merger between-Midwest Health
Plan and Health Systems Corporation, there
are several key areas of where the company
has not been integrated.
• Lack of integration between the two company
branches is resulting in, each branch of the
company making independent choices,
irrespective of the impact the decision has on
the company as a whole.
Integration and vision.
• Despite the vision of Midwestern health
systems which states - “to offer an integrated
health system to affordably enhance the
health of people living and working in
communities we serve” , there are certain key
elements which have not been integrated,
resulting in the creation of conflict.
MMG v/s MMS
• Despite being two divisions of one company ,
MMG and MMS have different hiring policies
in place, which creates miscommunication
between the two divisions, and result ins
outcomes which have a negative impact on
the company as a whole.
Hiring Decision Mismanagement
Examples of mismanagement-
• Ophthalmic services.
• General surgery .
• Spine surgery .
Solutions
• Shift in focus from Individual division success
to focus on, success for the company as
whole.
• Adoption of a universal hiring practice.
• Enhancing coordination and communication
between the two divisions and creating an
atmosphere of trust.
• Having a strong H.R. department in place.
Key message
• The key is for both divisions to compromise
and find a common ground, where unified
decisions are made, which are beneficial to
the company as a whole rather than
individually.
