Among the emerging diseases that could erupt again by climate change and the next El
Niño are dengue, malaria, leptospirosis and Peruvian wart.

Cases of malaria, an infectious disease caused by a parasite and transmitted by the bite of
Anopheles mosquito, were reduced by 82% in the last ten years in Peru, thanks to
sustained efforts for reducing metaxenic diseases.

Leptospirosis is caused by exposure to various types of Leptospira bacteria, which can be


found in warmer climates in inland waters have been contaminated by animal urine.

Finally, the Peruvian wart is also part of this group of emerging diseases and climate
change could affect the Peruvian if adequate prevention practice.
