Who was the Lost Dutchman?

According to legend, the Lost Dutchman gold mine is hidden somewhere in

the Superstition Mountains.
Jacob Waltz is the 'Dutchman.' "He came to Phoenix around 1868, in fact
he was one of the new settlers in the new city of Phoenix," says historian
Marshall Trimble.
Waltz died in 1891. "Supposedly his last words were stories of his treasure
out here. Well I need to point out there's nobody could embellish a tall tale
better than a prospector."
Waltz told of a rich mine, possibly abandoned by the Peralta family of
Mexico. Waltz made his deathbed confession to a woman named Julia
Thomas and apparently drew her a map.
"Legend has it, the mine is buried near Weavers Needle, you can see the
top of it sticking out behind the mountain."
To this day, the mine hasn't been found. Treasure hunters have been
seeking the gold mine since 1892.
