ILE. Mr Ali Asghar Khaji
Ambassador
Islamic Republic of Iran
Brussels, 30 November 2010
Your Excellency,
1am writing to you on behalf of President Jerzy Buzek and several Members of the European,
Parliament concerning the case of Khadijeh Jahed. The President and Members are gravely
concerned about the news of Ms Jahed's possible imminent execution.
While our Members acknowledge the responsibility to bring to justice those suspected of
criminal offences, Ms Jahed’s execution should be halted immediately and her case must be
properly reconsidered. According to the information provided to us, she withdrew her
confession of murder in court and she may have been coerced into making a “confession”
uring her earlier interrogation,
L would like to reiterate that in line with the European Parliament's numerous resolutions, the
EU remains unconditionally opposed to the death penalty, which is regarded as the ultimate
cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment and a violation of the right to life.
Counting on your good offices and in the spirit of our open dialogue, 1 would like you to
immediately convey these concerns to the relevant judicial authorities as well as provide us
with further information and clarifications on this case.
Yours sincerely,
va At
Alexandre Stutzmann
