1. Why do you think that many large companies have organized along product lines
(Ex. GM and Du Pont), while other large companies have territorial departments
(Ex. Prudential Life insurance company).
2. Select an organization and identify the departmentation pattern it uses. Draw an
organization chart for the firm. Why do you think the organization selected the
type of departmentation it did ? Would you recommend it ?
3. What do you mean by assessment centre ? How does it work ? Would you like to
participate in such a centre ? Why, or why not ?
4. List and evaluate the external factors affecting staffing. Which ones are more
critical today ? Explain.
5. What is the systems approach to the selection of managers ? Why is it called
systems approach ?
6. Do you think that managers should be appraised regularly ? If so, how ?
7. On what basis your performance in the college be appraised ?
8. Describe the most rewarding and most stressful aspects of your job or your
college experience ?
9. Evaluate the advantages and limitations of different approaches to on the job
training.
10. It has been argued that firms have an obligation to train and develop all
employees with managerial potential. Do you agree ? Why, or why not ?

Does this mean, once we see our limits, we should not try to improve in such
areas ?

What does the real manager do with people who are able but lack integrity ?
