Good Evening. My name is Mayte Lopez, and | am from Albuquerque, NM. | am a senior at St. Pius X High School and | use the internet nearly every day of my life, {As you may all know, senior year is an important year, and | have a lot of regular courses that | need to type reports for. Not only do | have to type them, and do other homework as well, but | have to keep in contact with and send updates and information to many of my classmates | am currently taking a microbiology class, and we have many assignments, most of which are labs. | use the internet to send my classmates information on the lab, receive things pertaining to the lab, and also contact my teacher about certain questions that | may have. am also taking a Christology/New Testament class, in which | have reports to do as well. The internet is ‘a great resource for information, and a helpful tool to me, Being a student, | have the full on experience of the internet. It is very helpful to me in my studies. Senior year is not only an important year for high school, it also is for college. Anything that | have done for college, | have done over the internet. | have applied for schools online, applied for scholarships online, done research on schools online, Everything cannot stress how important a free and open Internet would be for students, let alone the public. To me, a free and open internet means | wouldn't have to drive to my sister’s house when I need to do homework. It means fewer bumps in the road when it comes to school. It means | would be able to do my homework at home instead of trying to figure out how to turn in an assignment or communicate with my classmates on top of getting ready to graduate and apply for college. ‘The internet is a necessary tool for me and all other students. , a free and open internet would be accessible to many more students like me because of just that -- it would be free and open. ‘That's why I'm here to ask Chairman Genachowski and the rest of the FCC to reassert their authority over broadband, and pass strong Net Neutrality rules in 2010. tel 505-828-3129 6400 Wyoming Blvd NE Albuquerque NM 87109 medialiteracyproject.org
