Handicap Accessibility

of UNC-Charlotte

Thomas Nguyen
Problem!!!
• Routes to get to building at UNC-Charlotte are
not handicap friendly

• Few ramp for access for those who are

handicap and also less convenient for them.
Examples of the Problem!!
• Shelley Rae goes out to eat with her friends on
campus
– But when they get to a point Shelley has to go a
different way than her friends all because she is in
wheelchair and cant go down stairs.
– This makes her sad and wishes that she wasn’t in
the wheel chair so she can be with her friends
More problems
• Matt is in a wheelchair and he is late for class
• He need to get to class really fast but the only
way to do that is to go down the stairs but he
cant
– So with that he has to take a different path and
would take longer than taking the stair and
making his situation worse!!!!
Solutions to These Problems?
• Make more ramps on campus for handicap
people

• Have a Separate shuttle system for the

handicap on campus that takes them to class
or other buildings.
Working with solutions
shuttle system
• We can have a separate shuttle system for those
who are handicap.

• This solutions can work because Waikato Hospital

hepled out a campus that they saw didn’t have a
way for those who are in wheelchair to get around
• And it helped the school to be more handicap
friendly
Shuttle Conti.
• One problem with this would be the funding
on getting an other shuttle for those in a
wheel chair
• Or we could use one we have now and lose
one for the other student making them wait
longer for a ride.
Other solution - ramps
• Ramps could be built to make the campus
more accessable for student
• Can cut time to get to places and be able to be
with friends while going around campus.
Problems with ramps!!
• One would be trying to fund the costs of
making ramps
• Another would be figuring out where to place
the ramps and also not to get into the way of
students getting to class.
