Entropic (ENTR) +280% YTD; Attracted Big Buyers in Q3

I first wrote about home-networking chipmaker Entropic Communications (ENTR,
$11.68) at the end of October when the stock was trading around $8.50. It’s up 36%
since then. At that time, I pointed out big buying in Q2 among some top tech-focused
money managers.

The big money continued to accumulate Entropic shares in Q3:

*Copper Rock Capital—bought 2.83 million shares (NEW position)

*Alydar Partners—added 2.4 million shares (opened 1-million share position in Q2)
*Insight Capital Research—bought 2.2 million shares (NEW position)
*Next Century Growth—added 2.03 million shares (opened 518K shares in Q2)
*Vinik Asset Management—bought 1.89 million shares (NEW)
*Ameriprise Financial (J&W Seligman)—bought 1.86 million shares (position
+364%)
*Turner Investment—added 1.29 million shares (1.7-millon share new position in
Q2)
*Wellington Management—bought 941,280 shares (NEW)
*Driehaus Capital—bought 861K shares (added 265K shares in Q2)
*Harvest Capital—bought 838K shares (opened 825K shares in Q2)
*Fidelity—added 602K shares (position +540%)

Entropic now trades at 22 times the 2010 consensus EPS estimate of 53 cents. For
2011, the consensus EPS estimate of 76 cents indicates expected growth of 43%.
Revenue for next year is expected to be up 36% to $283.4 million.

Entropic shares have gained 280% so far this year.
