Because the job of being an Academic Advisor requires strong communication and
organization skills, I feel especially qualified for the position. I have obtained these
skills through different kinds of job experiences throughout college and community
while maintaining a high grade point average in school. Among my job experiences, I
enjoy working as a peer advisor in the Student Center at XXXX College. I worked at
the center for two and half a years, and I provided students with academic advisement
on the General Education Requirements. With the SIMS account, I was able to review
students’ transcripts and data information in computer. I helped them identify courses
that they completed and the courses that they would still need to satisfy their college
requirements. I helped them plan their programs, and referred them to appropriate
campus resources. My supervisor set up regular meetings with other peer advisors and
me to discuss how to make improvements for the center. I also participated in
planning and implementation of freshmen and transfer orientations. With my
experience, passion, and interest in advising, I would like a more challenging position.
I will devote my time and help students succeed both academically and socially.
Sincerely,
Glenish Rong
