Bangladesh is in a water basin and is only a meter above sea level so if there was a big wave

most of Bangladesh would be flooded. There is a big river going straight threw the country
which does not help Bangladesh because if the river was blocked higher up stream and
suddenly water burst throw 60% of the country would be flooded.

Bangladesh is a LEDC because there is hardly any income, the population is very high, lots of
people get sick, there aren’t very many schools and employment is hard because not
everyone has a good education. Flooding is normal in Bangladesh because 60% is flood plain
and 80% is one metre above sea level. Also it is in an area that there are allot of tsunamis
and tropical storms.

Between July and September 1998 Bangladesh had severe flooding; it was caused by
excess water in the main rivers which flowed through Bangladesh. It affected over 30 million
people and cost $3 billion, money that Bangladesh could not afford.75% of the country was
under water including Dhaka. The depth of the water was 5.5 m above sea level. The
damage done to the country was that:

 Wells were under water so no one could drink clean water

 Diseases that thrived in water thrived.
 Animals drowned
 Lots of farm land was dragged away so people could not eat unless food was supplied
from elsewhere.
 Roads were flooded so food could not be taken to the villages and towns that needed
supplies.
